Project Sleep Brings Patient Voices to SLEEP 2026
Over June 14-17, 2026, Project Sleep attended SLEEP 2026 in Baltimore, MD. SLEEP 2026 is the 40th annual meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies, LLC (APSS). The annual SLEEP meeting is dedicated to clinical sleep medicine, sleep and circadian research, and sleep health.
Project Sleep was honored to share our work and research via multiple sessions featuring Project Sleep leadership and advocates. We also had the opportunity to host a booth with resources, materials, and goodies to share!
Tuesday Sessions
On Tuesday, June 16, Project Sleep Rising Voices speaker, Matt Horsnell, and Project Sleep’s Sleep Helpline Manager, Heather Lill, LPC-MHSP, presented alongside Kelsey Biddle, MD and Jennifer Mundt, PhD in the session Family Members: The Missing Piece in Clinical Care for Central Disorders of Hypersomnolence.
Later in the day, Project Sleep President & CEO Julie Flygare, JD was featured in the session Reimagining Sleep and Wake Measures and Protocols: From Patient Narratives to Objective Biomarkers in Hypersomnolence Disorders with Kiran Maski, MD, MPH (Chair); Lucie Barateau, MD, PhD; and David Plante, MD, PhD.

Wednesday Sessions
In the morning of Wednesday, June 17, Project Sleep President & CEO Julie Flygare, JD presented again in Media Training Workshop: Communicating Sleep and Circadian Science to the Public, the Media, and Journalists alongside Michael Grandner, PhD (Chair); Daniel Stolte; Wendy Troxel, PhD; and Michael Twery, PhD.
To close out the meeting, Project Sleep’s Sleep Apnea Program Manager, Emma Cooksey, LLB was featured in Bridging Evidence and Experience: Clinical Outcomes and Patient-Defined Value in OSA Therapy with Dennis Hwang, MD (Chair) and Dr. Susan Redline MD, MPH.

Thank you AASM and Sleep Research Society for encouraging clinicians and researchers to include patient voices and patient advocacy organizations in your major sleep meeting!
#BeyondSleepy 2026
Leading up to SLEEP 2026, Project Sleep also attended the #BeyondSleepy Conference hosted by the Hypersomnia Foundation. This event is dedicated to people with idiopathic hypersomnia, narcolepsy, and Kleine-Levin syndrome, as well as their supporters. Project Sleep was also represented via a booth and featured speakers.
On Saturday, June 13, Rising Voices speaker Matt Horsnell and Project Sleep’s Sleep Helpline Manager Heather Lill held a session titled Relationships. Later in the day, Matt spoke alongside fellow Rising Voices speaker, Taya Austin in Invisible Illness, Visible Solutions: Employment Accommodations for Hypersomnias. To close out the day, Project Sleep President & CEO Julie Flygare, JD presented Sleep in Media.
The last day of #BeyondSleepy, Sunday, June 14, Taya Austin presented again in Sleep Equity Begins With Awareness while Matt and Heather presented again in Young Adult Relationships. In addition, Rising Voices speaker Haley Wall held Tools for Sleepiness- From an OT Perspective.
